Paano magdisiplina ng mga anak si Ibyang?

ria-arjo-sylvia copy

Guia sa My Dear Heart.

So might as well, ako ang puputol ng kalokohan niya,” sagot ng aktres.

“Alam ko na they have plans. Alam ko na noong nagplano siya na magbigay ng ring.

“Nag-post sila noong papunta pa lamang kami sa dinner.

“Hindi nakita ni Pancho ‘yung real reaction ko kasi nakita ko lang din sa Facebook,” kuwento pa ni Ms. Redgie.

Iba raw ang feeling ng isang ina lalo na kapag may anak na itong ikakasal na.

“Right now, of course I’m happy. Wala namang nanay na hindi magiging happy,” pagtapos pa ni Ms. Redgie Magno.

Four years na ang tinagal ng relasyon nila Pancho at Max bago sila na-engaged.

Noong 2014 nanligaw si Pancho kay Max pagkatapos silang magkakilala through common friends. Inamin na noon ni Pancho na matagal na niyang crush si Max.

Liza Soberano is the newest DARNA

Liza Soberano

THE search is finally over!

Actress Liza Soberano has been chosen to play the latest film version of “Darna” to be directed by Erik Matti.

In an exclusive interview on ABS CBN, Soberano said that she is excited and honored to play the popular comics heroine created by Mars Ravelo.

“Sobrang na-excite po ako and siyempre, I’m happy and I feel really honored to be able to don the iconic costume and to be able to embody what she represents,” said Soberano.

The 19-year-old star admitted that she has not seen any “Darna” movies since its debut in the 1950s.

“I haven’t. I’ve asked Direk Erik Matti if I can. Pero he told me na huwag muna. He wants me to go through the acting workshops and stunt training first before I watch the other movies para hindi din ako ma-influence ng ibang films.

And then from there, ia-adjust na lang po kung anong kailangan,” the actress said.

Soberano said that she will undergo different kinds of training for the action movie.

“I will undergo functional training, which is working out at the gym lang nagpapalakas po. And then eventually, I’ll have stunt training, dance workshop para sa timing and gracefulness kapag gumalaw;”

“And then I think I’ll have acting workshops again, as well as dialogue training. …I want to look physically strong and capable of doing the stunts,” she said.

For the past months, several names of popular female celebrities in the country have flaunted to play Darna after another Kapamilya star Angel Locsin turned down the offer for health reasons.

Other stars considered for the project include Nadine Lustre, Jessy Mendiola, Kathryn Bernardo, and Pia Wurtzbach.

Soberano recently starred in the blockbuster movie “My Ex and Whys” with screen partner Enrique Gil.

She told ABS CBN that she has accepted another project which she refused to reveal at the moment.

But she said that she will concentrate on “Darna” in the coming months.

“Well, so far, I’m also working on another one pero I think I’m going to focus on the shooting of the movie first and then get back to that other project,” said the 19-year-old star.

Soberano admitted though that she is nervous about “Darna”.

“Medyo nervous. Siyempre, iyong expectations ng mga tao, I want to be able to please. But of course, at the end of the day, you can’t please everyone. And ang gagawin ko na lang po is I’ll give my more than 100 percent best sa project na ito,” she said.

Before Soberano, Kapuso star Marian Rivera played the role of “Darna” on television in 2009.

Other stars who played the title role were Vilma Santos, Angel Locsin, Regine Velasquez, Sharon Cuneta, Lotis Key, Rio Locsin, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari, Gina Pareno, Eva Montes, and Rosa del Rosario, the first Darna.

Pocari, Creamline seek PVL semis berths today

Games Today
(The Arena, San Juan City)
1 p.m. – Army vs IEM (men’s)
4 p.m. – Creamline vs Air Force (women’s)
6:30 p.m. – Pocari vs Perlas (women’s)

Reigning champion Pocari Sweat guns for the third semifinal berth today when it squares off with Perlas Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League women’s tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Match is at 6:30 p.m. with the Lady Warriors aiming to complete a three-game sweep of the round-robin quarterfinals to join early semifinalists BaliPure and Power Smashers in the next round.

Equally important is the 4 p.m. showdown between Alyssa Valdez’s Creamline and Air Force.

Like Perlas, Creamline and Air Force also have 1-1 records.

The winners in both matches will complete the semis cast with Valdez promising to give her all in their game against the Air Force squad.

Consistency, meantime, plays a vital role in Pocari’s semis bid after needing five sets to beat Air Force and Creamline in previous matches.

“Magandang challenge for us na nakakalaro kami ng five-setter because it’s a test of character for our players. But more than that, we need to be consistent kasi kung kaya namang tapusin ng three sets, bakit hindi namin gawin,” said Pocari coach Rommel Abella.

Abella was referring to the team’s latest win – a 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11 thriller over Creamline last Tuesday.

Abella is again banking on guest player Michelle Strizak who exploded for 30 points against Creamline.

Help is also expected from Myla Pablo, Maricar Nepomuceno, and libero Melissa Gohing are also expected to step up.

Angel-Locsin copy

Ang caption pa ni Direk Erik ay, “Your wish has been granted #Darna #LizaSoberano. (NITZ MIRALLES)

NBA Finals: Unlikely heroes

As round three of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors NBA Finals matchup approaches, all eyes are on the stars. Will LeBron James surpass Michael Jordan in legacy, not just in Finals points? Can Kevin Durant get his first ring after joining the Warriors? Will Steph Curry get revenge?

But the Finals may hinge not just on the stars, but on the unsung heroes stepping forward. Two years ago it was Andre Iguodala who won Finals MVP honors. Last year it was Kyrie Irving who delivered some of the biggest offensive performances and Tristan Thompson who, like James, averaged a double-double.

MORE NBA FINALS:

So while we’re watching the biggest names, who might step out of the shadows in this series? We break down some of the faces to watch for.

Klay Thompson

Okay, it’s hard to start with Thompson as an unsung hero, but he has virtually disappeared in the Warriors’ 12-0 run through the playoffs. While many have pointed out that the addition of Durant placed Thompson out of the spotlight, Thompson actually averaged career highs this season in points per game, field goal attempts and three-point attempts per game. But his 22.3 points per game during the regular season have dropped to 14.4 in the playoffs and his field goal percentage has dropped from 46.8 to 38.3. Someone has got to be open in the Warriors offense, and if it’s Thompson, it’s hard to believe he will continue to struggle.

J.R. Smith

Speaking of the Warriors offense, it may fall upon an unlikely player to try to slow it down — J.R. Smith. Once an explosive offensive talent himself, Smith has remade himself this season, accepting a lesser role as a scorer and taking on the toughest backcourt defensive assignments. He has averaged just 4.8 shots per game in the playoffs compared to 9.0 last year and 11.4 the previous season. But if he can slow down Thompson or Curry, that can be a huge bonus for the Cavs.

MORE NBA FINALS:

JaVale McGee

Once his most notable achievement was serving as the foil for Shaquille O’Neal’s “Shaqtin’ a Fool.” But McGee has found a home somehow with the Warriors, providing a steady interior presence with his wild athleticism. Granted his range is limited to how far he can reach to dunk from — which is pretty far — but he has, along with Zaza Pachulia, helped make up for the departure of Andrew Bogut.

Deron Williams

Maybe if you were a betting man you’d put a few dollars on Williams to come up limping at some point than to label him an unlikely hero, but Williams has emerged as a first-time NBA finalist after a long wait and is the perfect sort of face for this role. He is a former No. 3 overall pick, a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA player who now settles into obscurity. But with the Warriors backcourt weapons, there are going to be times when Ty Lue has to pull out the stops behind Irving. Williams hasn’t put up big minutes or big numbers yet — 15.5 minutes and 5.6 points, but he has shot better than 50 percent from the floor and from beyond the arc this postseason.

The field

Have we gone this far without mentioning Draymond Green, who is desperately seeking redemption for his suspension last year? Or Kevin Love, who is playing as well as he has since arriving in Cleveland? Let’s add a few others to the mix — Patrick McCaw, the Warriors rookie, who has been a steady playoff contributor, or aging Shaun Livingston, who has had a quiet postseason. For the Cavs, someone is going to have to take minutes on Durant — and it could be Iman Shumpert or Richard Jefferson.

A look at the making of the Hollywood menu

Next, the Chicago restaurant that reinvents itself around a new theme multiple times a year, is currently dedicated to Hollywood. That means guests arrive on a “step and repeat,” as at a red carpet premiere. It also means that each course in the tasting menu is somehow tied to movies generally or a specific film.

To executive chef Jenner Tomaska, food and film are a natural pair. “Whether it be the focal point or not, there’s always some type of hospitality or food related scene in a movie. To me, it’s cool to see when it happens and it’s the focal point.” When it came time to create the menu, Tomaska says he and his team shed their typical “less is more philosophy.” Observers of Next will see a link to some past menus in the look of the food itself, but probably not in the serving pieces. “We had to hit enough nostalgia points and enough movie points, so that every diner that came in could have a reference to something,” the chef explains. “Whether it be to all the movies, or to more than half, is what we really wanted.”

“Although the service pieces have strong visual connections to the films, the dishes themselves are much more interpretive,” says Greg Morabito, who covers pop culture for Eater. Some dishes are quite literal — the Ratatouille course, for example, is basically gourmet ratatouille served on a mousetrap. But for the most part, Jenner says he “kept it open,” playing with flavors and ideas, making “food replicate what the movie stood for.” Beyond highlighting specific movies, Tomaska’s menu also tracks film history, following a chronological progression.

Gone With the “Caviar”

© Provided by Eater

The dish: A cheddar bay biscuit, apples “compressed into an elixir,” topped with caviar. The movie quote is written in potato starch and edible ink. Served with Champagne.

The presentation: Some are real film reels, other are props, says Tomaska. Servers present the dish to guests and then pull out the paper strip with the golden quote, a familiar line from Gone With the Wind that’s completed by the word on top of the caviar bite.

The ideas: “When you think black and white [movies], you think either subtitles or movie quotes and that’s kind of how this dish came about,” Tomaska says. “So, it’s caviar and Champagne, which are two staples of early Hollywood and that glamorous era that we wanted to open the menu with… Caviar and champagne, you really can’t go wrong, right? … And everyone, whether you’ve seen Gone with the Wind or not, you know that quote’s from that movie.”

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

© Provided by Eater

The dish: This film gets two courses; scallop crackers served with passion fruit, seaweed, and raw walnut and also braised octopus.

The presentation: This course takes place during the “sci-fi block,” a group of courses themed around classic science fiction movies of the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s and served on a red tablecloth. This course is served in a porthole (an actual porthole, not the Aviary’s oft-imitated cocktail service piece) purchased from a shipping yard in India.

The ideas: “The Porthole that they use in the Aviary is designed after a porthole, that’s what they used for a jumping-off point,” Tomaska says. “I was like, ‘Oh, we should plate it actually in the porthole or on the porthole’ and the dry ice aromatizes the seaweed and the shells that are underneath it… The flavors aren’t exactly representative of the movie. Not so literal, just more of the idea of the sea.”

Star Wars

The dish: Frog’s legs, ground with yellow split pea and seasoned with berbere, an Ethopian spice blend.

The presentation: Trying to source Han Solo’s blaster, Tomaska started by finding replicas of stage props — but they were prohibitively expensive. So he and his crew got toy guns and spray painted them, and put in some elbow grease to achieve the right look. If a guest pulls the trigger, the gun makes a noise.

The ideas: “In Return of the Jedi, Jabba the Hutt eats the paddy frog,” Tomaska says. “So, I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be whimsical if we did a frog bite and served it on top of the Han Solo blaster?’ We talked about light sabers, but [the dish] came to this and circled back to that scene.”

And here now, for your perusing pleasure, the entire Next: Hollywood menu.
