Malacañang on Thursday described as “pathetic” the alleged plot to assassinate communist leader Jose Maria Sison being hatched by the US Central Intelligence Agency with the help of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In a briefing, presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella dismissed the “twist” about Sison as a way for the National Democratic Front of the Philippines to “insert themselves” in supposed plans to overthrow the administration.
“‘Yun pong mga rumors of attempts to overthrow the President has been around from day one,” Abella said. “However, this latest twist where they include themselves is an insertion of themselves into the plot. It’s rather pathetic.”
Citing unnamed sources, the communist-led NDFP last Tuesday bared an alleged plot by the CIA and the AFP to kill Sison in the Netherlands where he is on exile, and then overthrow President Rodrigo Duterte.
It said the plot will be carried out by assets of the CIA who are close to AFP chief General Eduardo Año.
The military dismissed the claim as nothing more than communist propaganda. —KBK, GMA News
